THE STORY

WHAT IS EXTREME NAZARENE?

Extreme’s ministry in South America is based on spiritual disciplines and a strong culture of discipleship. Because Christ called us to go out and make disciples (Matthew 29:18), their missionaries are trained to form disciples who will then raise up more disciples. In every part of their ministry, from the administrative team to the front lines of the mission field, their aim is to make disciples.

Their heart’s focus is to bring spiritual change into people’s lives through Jesus Christ. This is how God is calling them to change the world. Through intentional, Spirit-filled discipleship, Extreme is able to become a conduit for God’s movement that goes beyond anything they could do on their own.
THE CHURCH-PLANTING MODEL

Built on the foundation of disciples making disciples with the model of the Master’s Plan:

• 40/40s (young missionaries) build relationships and evangelize, discipling new followers of Christ, one-on-one and within small group Bible studies called Houses of Prayer.

• New believers are invited to the Encounter, a weekend spiritual retreat designed to be a life-changing experience with God.

• After the Encounter, formal discipleship classes are the path to growth in Christ and church leadership.

Momentum is provided to the church-planting project through short-term teams.

During the 2-year project, Extreme partners with the local district to buy and/or build a permanent church building, organizing teams to help in construction.

THE GOAL

• Establish a church of leaders who are being discipled and discipling others.

• As leaders rise up and are trained, the missionaries begin to delegate their church responsibilities to the new leaders in the church.

• By the end of the project, the team from Extreme leaves the service city with the church plant completely under local leadership, debt-free and healthy.

THE TEAM

• Ten 40/40 church planting missionaries to share the gospel for 2 years

• Cluster family to guide and mentor the 40/40s.

• Pastoral family to lead the church long term

 HOW YOU CAN HELP

PARTNER IN PRAYER

We would love for you to partner with us in prayer for the church planting team and the community of Latacunga. We will send out updates and prayer requests via email. To join our mailing list, please fill out the contact form below.

SERVE ON A MISSION TRIP

Our church will take two trips over the next 2 years. The first will be a vision/mission trip to meet with the Latacunga team and help them build contacts and connections within the city. The second will be a mission trip to help the team establish a physical presence within the city. If you are interested in receiving more information, please fill out the contact form below.

GIVE FINANCIALLY

One of the biggest ways we can support the expansion of God’s Kingdom is by giving financially. God has blessed us immensely with resources that other countries do not have. By partnering in this way, we are removing financial obstacles that could prevent the church plant from happening. We are giving the church an opportunity to launch, completely debt-free and self-sufficient, by the end of our 2-year partnership. CLICK HERE to give.

CLUSTER SUPPORT FAMILY

CRAIG & BRENDA DAYTON
They are so excited to be a part of the Extreme Nazarene community, whose sole purpose is to plant churches and disciple future leaders. Last year, they had the opportunity to teach English to Ecuadorian children, help provide scholarships for missionary kids to attend Victoria Bilingual Christian Academy in Quito, Ecuador, and learn more about the language and culture. After being there for 1 year, and seeing all that God was doing in the church plants in Argentina, Chile and Ecuador, they felt like God wanted to use their gifts for teaching, mentoring, and building relationships to help support 40/40s and a pastor plant a church. After much prayer and guidance from mentors in their life, they accepted the position as the Cluster Support Family for the church plant in Latacunga, Ecuador.

 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS EXTREME NAZARENE?

The organization starts churches around the world. Its church planters believe that changing hearts is the answer to changing the world. They focus on discipleship and leadership, and strive to leave churches empowered and self-sustaining.

WHY PARTNER WITH EXTREME?

God has helped Extreme Nazarene plant more than 80 churches in six countries. Their proven process allows short-term partnerships to have a long-term impact. They need churches like ours to step up in order to accomplish their mission.

WHAT ABOUT LOCAL MISSIONS?

Our partnership with Extreme Nazarene will not take away from local missions. Our work in the community will continue. Local ministries need our time the most, but the ministry in Ecuador will require different resources. The change we will see in Latacunga will inspire us, even more, to transform our own town.

WHY LATACUNGA?

More than 200,000 people live in the Latacunga area, and most have no relationship with Christ. Access to Christian churches is limited. Extreme Nazarene believes Latacunga has the population, economy and resources to support and sustain a church plant and to plant future churches.

WHO AGREED TO DO THIS PROJECT?

The staff, church board, and Nazarene Missions International board fully support the decision to partner with Extreme Nazarene in Latacunga. All three groups have discussed the project and agreed to involve the entire church.

WHERE IS LATACUNGA?

Latacunga is a city in Ecuador, on the west coast of South America. It is a 2-hour drive south of  Extreme Nazarene’s headquarters in Quito.     Latacunga sits at the base of Mount Cotopaxi, the second highest summit in the country, and one of the world’s highest volcanoes.

WHO ARE THE CHURCH PLANTERS?

The team includes a South American pastor,    already hired to plant the church; eight young adult missionaries from North America and South America (called 40/40s); and a North American “Cluster Coordinator Couple” who will guide the missionaries and assist the pastor. The 40/40s and the couple have all raised their own financial support.

HOW LONG WILL THE PROJECT LAST?

Two years. By then, the church should be self-sustaining, debt-free, and organized as an official Nazarene church under local denominational leadership. When the partnership ends, we can pursue other mission ventures, or plant another church with Extreme Nazarene.

WHO WILL CONTRIBUTE AND HOW?

EVERYONE will play a role. If you consider yourself part of the First Nazarene family, we expect you to contribute in whatever way God calls you. We want ALL ages to be involved. The three main ways to contribute are: prayer/communication, trips, and financial giving.

HOW CAN WE PRAY?

One of our most important tasks is to pray for and encourage the church planting team. They will keep us up to date by sharing videos, articles, pictures, and more. They also will pray for and encourage us.

WHAT KIND OF TRIPS WILL WE TAKE?

We will take two  mission trips over the next 2 years to support the church plant on site. The first will be focused on building relationships in the community. The second will be focused on construction or renovation, and helping the church establish a permanent physical presence in Latacunga.

WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL NEED?

If everyone gives, we will easily meet our goal of providing $48K per year, over 2 years. That   money will support the pastor and his family; allow the congregation to rent a temporary building, buy property, and build or renovate a facility of their own; and cover program expenses, utilities, and other needs.
